PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has written to the Senate requesting approval to obtain a 200 million dollar World Bank loan on behalf of Lagos State.
The letter was read to the Senators by Senate President Bukola Saraki on the floor of the Senate today. Thhis would be the second of Buhari’s request to the senate for loan approval on behalf of APC governed states. Recall that the president had requested and obtained approval for a $75 million for Adams Oshiomole’s Edo state. Analysts across Nigeria say that that this trend is worrying considering Nigeria’s already burgeoning loan burden. It is particularly worrisome that the states that are eager for dollar denominated loans are those that have some of the highest internally generated revenues.
President Buhari also wrote the Senate President for the approval of the senate for the confirmation of Babatunde Fowler as the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) boss and Ahmed Lawan Kuru for Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria.
Other nominees for the same position were Kola Ayeye, Eberechukwu Uneze and Aminu Ismael.
Also, Prof. Garba Danbata was also nominated as the Chairman of Nigeria Communications Commission.
